Famous Global Citizens

Being a global citizen is something to be proud of. You fight for what you believe and stand up for it. You may make a small change or you might end up making a big positive impact on some people. There are many major and minor problems in the modern world. Some are animal abuse ,war , poverty, natural disasters, drugs, global warming, deforestation, diseases, rights, freedom and much more. That's why we have global citizens to prevent and possibly exterminate these problems from the face of the Earth. Three famous global citizens are Terry Fox, Martin Luther King and Craig Keilburger. The following paragraphs will explain more about these global heroes.

Terry Fox was a very brave person. Our world was lucky to have him, When Terry was 18, he was diagnosed with bone cancer and was later forced to have his right leg amputated 15 cm. Terry was determined to fight for his and other peoples cancer. He was determined to help find a cure for this terrible disease to the best of his ability. Terry decided to run a marathon. To practice he ran over 5000 miles over a period of 18 months and finally the day arrived. On April 1980 Terry started his run at St. Johns Newfoundland. He was determined to run across Canada. He ran about 45km a day. However. On September of the same year, he was forced to stop after running 5373 km (over a course of 143 days) at Thunder Bay, Ontario. The reason for his sudden stop id because cancer had appeared in his lungs. A little over an year and 2 months after he started the marathon, Terry passed away at the age of 22. But his run didn't go to waste. That year people raised a lot of money to go towards the cancer society. Even today, annually we have the Terry Fox, Marathon Of Hope to honour and remember Terry's memory. To date, over $600 million has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry's name through the annual Terry Fox Run. We all hope that one day, cancer will come to and end.                Martin Luther King(Jr) was a very different man from Terry Fox. He didn't have cancer and he fought for something different. He was devoted to bring peace and equal rights to everyone. He gave  many speeches and traveled many miles to give them. His most famous speech was the one he delivered  on august 1963. It was called "I have a dream". He talked about how he wished to see black and white people getting together and working as one. He inspired many people that wish to stand up for equal rights.               Finally we arrive at Craig Keilburger. He is a Canadian activist that fights for the rights of children. He and his brother founded the Free the Children and Me to We society. Craig travelled to many third world countries and made videos about what kind of lives children in those countries have to live through. He had given many speeches about child labour and rights and he continues to fight for it. He is making a big impact on children rights and will do it until he is satisfied.

These are just 3 of the many global citizens that follow what they believe. You should too take a stand and fight for what you believe.
